Yesterday, the 35 national pilot demonstration software colleges welcomed elites and experts who are coming to the Wuxi New District to attend the 2008 Academy-Industry Cooperation Forum for Deans from National Pilot Demonstration Software Institute (Wuxi) and the first Forum on Talents Development of China Software Industry in Wuxi. Yang Weize, the Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Provincial and Municipal Party Committee, municipal leaders such as Sheng Keqin and Xu Gang, Zha Jianzhong, the chairman of UNESCO Academy-Industry Cooperation, Wu Ai-hua, the director of the Office for building State Pilot Demonstration software College and others attended the Opening ceremony of the forum. This event is hosted by the municipal government, organized by the District Administration Committee and coordinated by the Office of the Chengdu Municipal Government.
During the two-day forum, experts will deliver their keynote speeches concerning promoting industry-academy cooperation in the software industry, accelerating innovation and development in the training mode of software talents, supply and demand trend of software professionals and other issues. Besides, representatives from software schools of six key universities such as Chinese University of Science and Technology will have live dialogue with business leaders of six software enterprises such as Huaxia Software Company addressing the issue of talents training.
It has been learned Wuxi has witnessed a rapid rise of software and information outsourcing industry in recent years. In the wave of economic globalization, information globalization and services globalization, the city made a breakthrough by vigorously developing the service industry, software and services outsourcing industry in particular. The city put great efforts to cope with development bottlenecks such as resources, environment and population pressure, and promote economic development from focusing on key area development to optimizing overall development. For these reasons, the city has introduced the "123" plan aiming to round up services outsourcing and software export enterprises and construct service outsourcing model zones as well as form a diversified talent training system. Last year, Wuxi¡¯s sales volume of software industry reached 15.5 billion Yuan, increasing 38 times in the last six years. Software exports and outsourcing earned 330 million U.S. dollars. The city has more than 350 software enterprises, including the 129 recognized by the provincial level offices, and 20 CMMI certificated enterprises. Software outsourcing business rapidly develops into a scale of more than 30 enterprises and nearly 5,000 employees, and has formed its own features such as integrated circuit design, office software, export outsourcing software, to name just a few. Last year, Wuxi was included in the China Services Outsourcing White Paper and selected as the first pilot demonstration zone for Chinese services outsourcing unanimously by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education, becoming the city with the greatest development potential, driving force and the fastest speed.
In order to strengthen the cooperation between Wuxi and national pilot demonstration Software Institutes in aspects of politics, industry and academy as well as cultivate more pragmatic and internationalized software talents for the development of Wuxi, Wuxi New Area signed a compact to make strategic cooperation with the construction office for Model software colleges from the Ministry of Education yesterday, both of which have agreed to have the new district to be the permanent host for the forum every two years, and to establish the exchange mechanism and software platform for national pilot demonstration Software Institutes. After that, the new district signed a contract with six software colleges from universities including the Beijing Jiaotong University, Northeastern University, Tongji University on the employment and personnel training cooperation.
Yesterday, the ceremony for the establishment of software and services outsourcing Institute and the completion of its building was held in Wuxi Science and Technology Training College, meanwhile three research and development centers settled down in this building. Several people attended the ceremony, including Yang Weize, the Secretary of the Standing Committee of provincial and municipal Communist Party Committee, municipal leaders Sheng Keqin, Xu Gang and Fang Wei, and Wu Ai-hua, the director of the project office of the Ministry of Education for the National Pilot Demonstration Software Institutes.
As a major talent reserve for the industrial restructuring of Wuxi, the newly established Software and Services Outsourcing Institute set up mainly the departments of software outsourcing engineering, digital media art, network information services and basic education on computer, in which majors such as software technology, embedded systems engineering, communications network and facility, animation design and production. The college now has a demonstration teaching laboratory named "Freescale embedded systems design and application¡± approved by the Higher Education Office of the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu experimental training base for computer application technology, which includes about 30 labs for software engineering and software testing with gradually matured experimental and training conditions. According to the introduction of the institute, 14 majors will take part in the college entrance examination enrollment this year including majors such as software testing, software outsourcing, game design, aiming to admit 1160 students and striving to raise the number of students in the school to 5,000 by year 2010.
In addition to full-time education, Software and Services Outsourcing College will also deeply expand cooperation between school and enterprise to co-sponsor talents training projects for software and service outsourcing industry, the first session of which received more than 200 students and was smoothly launched in March.
Yesterday, a unveiling ceremony for the Digital Innovation Center of Folk Art, Digital Media Research and Development Center of Dashu Group, Digital Research and Development Center, the first three R&D centers settling down to the Software and Services Outsourcing Building of the college, was held.
